For the sparrow a moth is a meal

I watched a sparrow chase down and catch a moth the other day. To a sparrow a moth is a meal. Today I watched two obese folks walking back to work from a nearby Starbucks with 20 ounce drinks in their hands. (They will be telling themselves and others that they walked that block each way for the exercise – for their health. But they won’t do the math on the calories burned verses the calories consumed.)

To a crow a moth is just a bite.

It’s a testament to the power of the popular culture to push it’s priorities that people are both addicted (essentially) (thanks the chemistry of engineered food) and in a trance (thanks to the methods of mass marketers). We think we are wide awake and making a conscious choice, but are we?

Or are we volunteering to be eaten by a vulture.
