A Grain of (Celtic Sea) Salt: Research on Exercise and the Brain

Filed under: Uncategorized — doctordilday @ 11:51 am

This study supports the idea that we need variety in our lives – if you need research to be convinced of that. Recent studies have highlighted the value of High Intensity Interval Training (HIT). Now, in rats, anyway – thus the “grain of salt reference” – the need and value of sustained aerobic exercise is highlighted.

Tai chi offers both, of course, which is one of many reasons it is the perfect exercise. But… you can use the news to help you in wide variety of health decisions: there are lots and lots of ways to get sustained cardiovascular exercise.

Start where you are. Find out what heart rate would put in your training zone. Find an activity that does that. And do it for extended periods of time – for humans “extended” would probably be in the more-than-40 minutes-up-to-about-90 minutes range. (And you might have to build up to that point but that’s fine.)
