Consumer Reports ‘Special Report’: Is Bottled Water Safer?

The November issue just arrived last week. Here are few highlights from this special report: not talking about contamination; not talking about environmental impacts; just a few fun facts regarding priorities and economics.

According to the Report the average American drinks 42 gallons of water per year (Note: that is about one quarter the amount recommended for the average 130 pound individual, but this Post is not about those implications. It amounts to about 2 glasses per day though. Something to think about.)

Anyway, even at that, it amounted to $31 Billion in 2018.

At $1.07 – $2.49 per gallon if you bought from either Coke or Pepsi, they were making up to $21 million dollars per month off of you, your friends, family and co-workers.

Coke and Pepsi buy tap water cheap and they sell it to the average American – not so cheap!

One result of the industries’ marketing success is that, for those who drink only bottled water, they can expect to take an additional 90,000 micro plastics into their body. Again, this Post is not about the health implications of that, but it is something to think about; paying so much, and getting so much.

Dehydrated. Broke. Contaminated. Sick.

Here are some (many) earlier Posts on the subject of water going back to 2006 (And they are not all just about Kangen water (at, by the way, less than one penny per gallon). Kangen water, like tai chi and chiropractic care, are not for everyone.) (In fact, these Posts are not all even about water, but ‘water’ shows up in them somewhere:-) Many are related the issues raised in the previous paragraph, above. There are alternatives. There are healthier choices. Coke and Pepsi want your money; they do not care about your health.

Finally, the Reports answer to the lead question is… perhaps not. If you live in Everett and you are drinking Everett’s tap water, it is great water – if the context is “SAFE”. But safe and healthy are not the same thing. Maybe something to think about.

(I mention all of this because, after air, water is the first nutrient to consider if health is a priority. Pure air and clean, healthy, water are a game-changing place to start the New Year on a healthier note!)
