Inflammation, which is the root cause of autoimmune disorders including arthritis, Type 1 diabetes, irritable bowel syndrome and Crohn’s disease, has unexpected effects on body clock function and can lead to sleep and shiftwork-type disorders, a new Northwestern Medicine study in mice found.

More On The Consequences of Systemic Inflammation


Chiropractic adjustments decrease inflammation (scientifically proven). Did you know that?

Medication decreases inflammation. (I’m laughing, I meant to say “Meditation” of course, but we also know that medication will decrease inflammation – you just have to be careful, right?)


Another good reason to know a little about the inflammatory lifestyle verses an anti-inflammatory lifestyle.

Another good reason to have a clinically proven secret weapon against inflammation that is convenient and affordable. (And inflammation is just one reason among many.)

Another good reason to think about whittling away at the negatives and propping up the positives in terms of a healthy lifestyle. Like grass growing, a little here and there over time makes the difference. Like moles chewing your lawn’s roots or the August drought, there is a point where it becomes “too late for the cure.” Killing moles or adding water after the grass is dead won’t produce a healthy lawn.

The beauty of Chiropractic is it’s simplicity: think Physical, Chemical, or Mental/emotional. Habits, whether healthy or not, can be looked at from this perspective – categorically. By starting wherever you are you can look at each element and ask: Is it Physical, Chemical or Mental? Is is something I should do that I am not doing; or something I should not be doing that I do?

Start with the easiest possible stuff so that you can chock up wins… and win the head game with yourself. Cultivate the happy chemicals that go along with even the slightest healthy moves. These happy chemicals fuel the process. The happy chemicals from healthy habits like getting adjusted, exercise or meditation (even just mindful breathing) are the same happy chemicals that we get from feeding our “addictions” to food, alcohol or whatever other bad habit we have. The difference is the consequences over time.

Berry Juice Compounds Reduce Inflammation

A growing body of scientific evidence supports the potential beneficial effects of berry compounds. Anne S. Kivimaki, from the University of Helsinki (Finland), and colleagues studied the effects of cranberry (Vaccinum oxycoccos), lingonberry (Vaccinum vitis idaca), and blackcurrant (Ribes nigrum) on various markers of inflammation, in a laboratory animal model. Hypertensive rats were given free access to one of the juices for eight weeks, during which they consumed an average of 38 g of cranberry juice, 44 g of lingonberry juice, and 46 g of blackcurrant juice per day. The team observed that reductions in the expression of compounds associated with inflammation: cyclooxygenase 2 (COX2) decreased by 50% while the animals were on lingonberry and blackcurrant juices, while monocyte chemoattractant protein 1 (MCP1) decreased significantly while the animals were on lingonberry juice. In addition, lingonberry juice resulted in reductions of soluble adhesion molecules – biomarkers involved in cellular damage, elevated levels of which may contribute to an increased risk of atherosclerosis. The study authors conclude that: “These findings suggest that cranberry and lingonberry cold-compressed juices have anti-inflammatory and anti-atherothrombotic actions in long-term treatment of [hypertension].”

The improvements included greater physical, functional, social and emotional wellbeing, and enhanced cognitive functioning.

Cancer patients who used a 5000-year-old combination of gentle exercise and meditation experienced significantly higher wellbeing levels, improved cognitive functioning and less inflammation compared to a control group, new University of Sydney research has found.

Dr Byeongsang Oh, a clinical senior lecturer at the Sydney Medical School who led the study, said the reduced inflammation in patients who practised medical Qigong, a form of traditional Chinese medicine, was particularly significant.
